Pharmacy students and psychiatry residents were provided opportunity to work together as a team in an inter-professional student-led smoking cessation program for eight months. They started with a full day orientation session that was led by a faculty member in pharmacy who has expertise in smoking cessation. She introduced the students and residents to the smoking cessation program itself and worked directly with them on how to communicate and collaborate with the clients they would be counselling, as well as how to communicate and collaborate as part of an inter-professional team. A scaffolding process was used to teach students and residents how to successfully deliver the smoking intervention for the first few weeks, increasing student and resident independence through a learning progression approach. Details will be discussed during the presentation.
