An In-Class teaching tool that uses Quick Response (QR) codes was first created with the purpose of increasing both student, class and course engagement. The technique is an alternative to online-based, computerized student response systems. While it resembles more traditional teaching methods, it is student centered and accommodates a digital native approach to information gathering. Our presentation explores the potential of the tool for feedback, formative assessment and a method to increase class engagement and participation in large classes but also describes the journey of creating a fully functioning, secure, self-contained tool.
